02 — The stuff

Items — added in three taps.

Snap a photo. We'll suggest a title and category. Pick which Folds can see it. That's it — no price, no description, no haggling. The friction is the point.

03 — Trust the loop

The pickup ritual — tiny, silly, important.

The lender's app generates a four-digit code. The borrower types it in when the thing changes hands. The app marks the borrow officially started. Both sides know exactly when the thing left the building.

Stuck state if the code never goes through — you can fix it.
Tweak: code handshake or two-tap confirm, whichever feels right for your Fold.

04 — Closing the loop

The return ritual — a Polaroid moment.

Optional return photo. Both sides rate the borrow (gently, privately). The owner can mark the item back in their kit. Nothing slips into the "did I ever return that?" black hole.

05 — The thing nobody tells you

Care notes — owner wisdom, surfaced when it matters.

A short tip from the owner ("battery latch sticks", "two squirts of oil before use", "Lucy used to nap on the bottom shelf"). It shows up the moment the borrower needs it — on accept and again at pickup. Never buried in chat history.

06 — When things go sideways

Incidents — a kind branch, not a courtroom.

Lost, Broken, Late, Other. The borrow pauses on a shared screen, both sides chat to resolve, ratings stay frozen until it's closed. No automatic strike system. Real people, real conversations, real resolutions.

07 — Finding stuff

Search — compressed, never a feed.

Type what you need. See who in your Folds has it. Request with one tap. If no one has it, queue up — first to add it within 30 days gets a heads-up. No browsing. No discovery. Just finding.

What it is, what it isn't

Some things Fold In doesn't do.

By design. We thought about each of these and chose differently.

— Not a marketplace

No prices, no ratings, no fees.

Money would warp what this is. So would 5-star reviews. Sharing in a Fold is closer to lending your neighbor a ladder than running an Airbnb.

— Not a network

No followers, no public profile.

You exist inside Folds. There is no "Fold In account" people can find or befriend. Your photo and name are only visible to people you've invited or who've invited you.

— Not a feed

No algorithm, no surfacing.

The Folds list shows your Folds. The Items grid shows the items in them. We don't sort by "engagement", we don't suggest people, we don't promote anything. Quiet by default.

— Not a contract

No fine print, no penalty system.

If something breaks or is late, the app surfaces it kindly and lets you two figure it out. No automatic strikes. No frozen accounts. You're adults; we trust you.
