Closed beta — summer 2026

Lend what you have. Borrow what you need.

Fold In is a quiet, invite-only app for small circles of friends, family, or neighbors to share the things they already own — with care notes, gentle reminders, and a pickup ritual that closes the loop.

Free during beta · No ads · No marketplace · No strangers
A small, private circle

Most of the things we own sit still most of the time.

A drill, a ladder, a stand mixer, a travel cot. Fold In gives a few trusted people a way to share what they already have — without lists, marketplaces, or strangers.

01 — Folds

Private circles, by invitation.

A Fold is 3 to 8 people who already trust each other. Make one for your block, your siblings, your climbing crew. Nothing is ever public.

02 — Items

The things in your home, not for sale.

Add the things you're happy to lend in a few taps. Photos, care notes, who's borrowed it. No prices. No reviews. Just yours, shared.

03 — Borrows

A ritual that closes the loop.

Request, accept, hand off in person with a four-digit code, return with a photo. Nothing slips into a black hole.

What's in the app

Built for real lending, not a marketplace.

Every feature exists to make a borrow end gracefully — not to optimize engagement, surface ads, or grow your network.

The pickup ritual

A four-digit code, a quick condition photo. The lender sees exactly when the thing left their hands — and gets it back the same way.

Phase 1 · Trust the loop
Care note
Battery latch sticks — wiggle the cover before clicking.

Care notes

Owner-written tips ("battery latch sticks", "two squirts of oil before use") surface right when the borrower needs them, not buried in a chat.

Phase 2 · Polish

Gentle reminders

"Returning tuesday?" not "OVERDUE — 3 days." Late doesn't mean lost; the app nudges, never accuses.

Phase 1 · Trust the loop
From sign-up to handoff

Four steps. No marketplace.

01

Start a Fold with 3–8 people you trust.

Invite by link or contact. Nothing is public — what's inside a Fold stays inside the Fold.

Hand off in person, then close the loop.

A four-digit code at pickup. A photo at return. Both sides know exactly where the thing is, all the time.

What people actually say.

"It feels like a tiny, polite library — except the librarian is my friend Maya and the catalog is just the things she'd happily lend anyway."

"The pickup code is silly until you realize it's the thing that makes you actually return the bread machine."

"My Fold is six of us on the same block. We've borrowed a pressure washer four times instead of buying one. It paid for the rest of my life in three weekends."

Honest questions

The short version.

Is Fold In a marketplace?
No. There are no prices, no listings visible to strangers, no fees, no reviews, no algorithm. A Fold is invite-only, capped at 8 people, and what's inside it stays there.
Who can see my stuff?
Only the people in the same Fold as you. You can be in multiple Folds (your siblings, your block, your climbing crew) — items added to one Fold are not visible in another.
What if something gets broken or lost?
The borrow pauses on an Incident screen — Lost, Broken, Late, or Other. Both people see what happened, can chat, and resolve it together. Ratings stay frozen until it's closed.
What does it cost?
Nothing during beta. Long term we're exploring a small Household plan for families that want shared Folds; the core single-user experience will stay free.
How is my data handled?
Only the people in your Folds see what you share. We never sell data and don't track you across other apps. Read the full Privacy Policy for the details.
